The weeks leading up to Christmas are my favorite time to go bikepacking - long days, typically mild, stable weather, and best of all, beating the holiday crowds that don't venture out til Boxing Day.

For this trip, I wanted to link up an eastbound traverse across the high country, ticking off some locations I'd been eyeing for a while:

• Mt Horsfall - a prominent peak straddling the southern boundary of the upper yarra reservoir
• Mt McKinty - a ridge on the great dividing range with a disused 4WD track. On the AAWT linking Jamieson-Licola Rd to the Mt Sunday and the upper Jamieson valley
• Zeka Spur and Wonnangatta - Zeka spur is a favourite among 4WDers, and its hard to get more remote than Wonnangatta in Victoria
